Graduating from Teesside University with a First-Class Honours in Sports Therapy my specialism and passion is to help patients with their the rehabilitation of injuries, but not just limited to the sports arena. I love to educate and support patients so that they are in charge of their own health, understanding how posture affects pain, how muscular imbalances affect the kinetic chain, how overtraining in sport can cause trauma and how movement is important for everyone.
With a training background in Remedial Massage, Dip. Sports Therapy, Dip. Advanced Sports Kinesio Practitioner, Orthopaedic Dry Needling, APPI Pilates Instructor, Functional Gait Analysis and Running Technique Re-Education, Osteopathic Spinal Manipulation, Electrotherapy and numerous other Continuous Professional Development courses – my training is evidence-based and continuous. I have a long history of working pitch side with our local rugby club and also football clubs and running clubs – not only offering clinic appointments but also educational workshops.
I am very driven by my love for pilates, teaching 7 times a week at all levels, and using this knowledge and expertise to underpin rehabilitation programmes for both sporting and non-sporting patients alike. Pilates changed my life after suffering a fall (ashamedly from roller skating!) and I haven’t looked back since. Being trained by the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute I am fortunate to be qualified to teach patients with orthopaedic conditions and have GPs refer patients to my classes. I love being so fortunate to teach and have fun with exercise! I also practice yoga and find the mindfulness of this teaching very effective.
On a personal level I also love to run, which helps when working with a lot of runners, triathletes and Ironmen (aswell as new runners!). I am part of the Ellesmere Port Running Club and have done a number of half marathons and marathons, so appreciate how frustrating it is when you can’t do your sport when injured – I also know of how much time and training athletes have/don’t have to conform to rehabilitation programmes, so make programmes very realistic without putting athletes, whatever their preferred sport, on total curfew!
I am a firm believer that we must be responsible for our own health and I feel that patients walking through my clinic door have identified this – reaching out for support and guidance. I feel privileged to be able to support patients with this education process. Not one day is the same, working with the elderly helping improve their movement function, office workers with postural pain to GB Team runners, again helping improve their movement function – I frequently hear myself saying to patients “its not really a job, it’s just like a nice hobby!”
I hope this gives you an idea of my background and my passion but please contact me if you’d like more information before making an appointment.
